Self Evaluation Paper

Liam Chapman Kelly Griffin-Brown Senior Project  May 24, 2022 Senior Project - Self Evaluation Paper I have learned about The Country Club of New Hampshire and how they run their business while learning about golf to become a better player throughout my senior project. Our Initial goals (2) for the project were to understand and analyze the business perspective of the golf course learning about facets that go into the country club. Improve our golf game by practicing and being engrossed in the sport. The only goal that we didn't complete was because of Quin's knee injury; he could not participate in the golfing portion; regardless, it allowed me to get a lot of golfing in. Some of the benefits derived from our project were the appreciation of a golf course and the care that goes into making one and maintaining it, along with the value of hard work and effort. Some of the negative aspects of the project were that some days being stuck at the golf course on a ninety degree d...

Reflection 2 - Liam Chapman

Weakly Reflection’s Name: Liam Chapman Date: May 24th, 2022 Time: 11:51 Reflection: Week 2 Over this week, quin and I have done a lot at the golf course; we got to know the workers there and started to form friendships with guys at the pro shop. The golfing that I got to participate in was incredible, and the care and time that the maintenance crew put into the course were remarkable. Derrick, the man who runs the show, has been not only our leader but a role model and a friend to us and has guided us along the way, teaching us, coaching, and mentoring us. Over this week, I have learned a lot, but this week the most significant thing I can take away is a quote from one of the workers that I took with me, "If you're going to do it half-ass, then don't do it." (spanky- on the course). This quote stuck with me because it is so true and can be applied to all of my activities and chores. Spanky is an old-timer that works at the course, and I respected his work because re...

After that, we went out to put green and practiced our putts. Shortly after the putting, we went out with the maintenance crew as they were doing bunker maintenance; Derrick had us go with the guys and learn what they do. When we learned about bunker maintenance, it was a lot more work and permission than what meets the eye. Using a specific tool that mows the steep hills of the bunkers, they carved out very smooth lines making the bunker a highlight of the course. Overall it was a fun day at the golf course, and the skills I learned today will stick with me in the future when I apply them.

We started the day off by hanging out with the guys in the pro shop in the morning, catching up on last night's sports games. After that, we went out and played nine holes. My friend from home, Jacob, can and played with us, the weather was stormy, but we made the most of the day. After we got off the course and said our goodbyes to Jake, we went back on the course to follow the beverage cart girl around. After that, we went and cleaned carts with Carl. Overall a great day at the golf course. 5.5 hours

We finished our day by hanging out with Derrick, Mark, and Rocky in the pro shop.  Overall it was a fun day on the golf course. 3.5 hours

Our server was Rocky; we have been hanging out with Rocky for a while since we have been on the project. He is a great dude and very funny.  After we ate food we called it a day.  Over all a great day on the course. 5.5 hours

Reflection 1 - Liam Chapman

Liam Chapman  Kelly Griffin-Brown Senior Project May 4, 2022 Weakly Reflection Name: Liam Chapman Date: May 16th, 2022 Time: 1:14 Reflection 1: Week 1 Over the last week, I have learned much about golf, the course, and maintenance. In the previous week, I have learned from the best; Derrick has helped us a lot. Also, the maintenance crew has helped us out by teaching us how to do tasks like washing carts, replacing divots, washing balls, and even driving the machine that picks up balls in the driving range. In learning these tasks, I started to appreciate the work put into a golf course. It is a humbling experience because a golf course can look like a grassy field from a distance, But to others, a golf course is a screenshot of the hard work, dedication, and patience it takes to maintain that image. I enjoy the project I'm working on; I've had a lot of fun and learned so much from the guys who work here. Also, it has been an excellent opportunity for me to get out on the co...

Name: Liam Chapman Date: May 16th Monday Time: 1:45 Blog 7: Maintenance & golf Today, on the course, Quin and I worked on many maintenance tasks we received from service and his maintenance crew. We started by washing some carts from the morning rush. After the carts, we replaced divvits on the driving range as the rain made it a good day to fill divots. Then we got into the cart that picked up balls in the driving range and picked up all the balls from the range. Shortly after that, we washed the balls we collected and put them back into the ball machine. After finishing our chores, we got on the course and played the back nine. I was surprised how the weather affected the number of people on the course. Once the rain came, most people left, and a couple of the die-hards were still playing an enjoyable day on the golf course. 5 hours

We played the front nine and had a lot of fun. As we played, we came across countless people who were tied to Proctor Academy. We took advantage of the opportunity and started networking with them. We have been doing this since the beginning of the project, but today it was evident that more people recognized us than expected. The people on the course we met were amiable and fun to talk to. Overall I had a lot of fun playing nine and socializing with locals. 2 hours

Today was the hottest day so far, and that being said, I think the heat got the both of us.  Overall a great day at the course, can’t wait for next week. 5 hours

This is a handy skill, and Quin and I will use it.  After that, I got some balls for the driving range to practice my form and swing to end the day. 5 hours
